Team name / Company name: No fluffy backup
Team leader: Vít Volšička
Challenge: no. 2: Bottle deposit scheme
Problem: Czechs resist to store and return uncrampled PET bottles, but current machines can’t identify damaged bottles. There is also a big need in other markets to read crumbled bottles, so people can store and return more bottles at once.
Solution: Placing Barcode (EAN) on the lower part of a cap, where it can’t be easily damaged and scanned by the machine is solving the problem of returning crumbled bottles.. The bottle is inserted into the machine by hanging it on rails using the ring under bottle’s cap.
Impact: Huge. Returned bottles can be recycled to new bottles and cost reduction is 420mil. CZK per year for CZK market. In termins of CO2 it can save about 13mil. m2 of forest in CZE.
Feasibility: Feasible, just new return machines need to be developed. The costs would return in about 2-3 years. Our raw calculations https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_b9ZfQqXvLX_ZuU6HliIe0uW72ig8PjE/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=114312970939650263450&rtpof=true&sd=true
What you built: We built cardbord prototype from scratch. We had feasibility check from Mattoni mentor
What you had before: nothing
What comes next: Prove that barcode can be attached to bottle cap. We would like to see this concept in production at least in the Czech republic
