Challenge: no. 1: Recycling cans in Slovakia
Problem: The year 2022 means a big step for SK environment. From January, the Deposit return system will be implemented and consumers will need to be motivated to return cans and PET bottles to the collection spots. These are valuable materials and their increased recycling will be a game-changer with the goal to recycle 90% of them by 2025. With this change, many new problems arise, customer behaviour and storability of intact cans, convenient usage and sustainability.
Solution: Pivochop brings intact and easy storing at home and transfer to the collection spot. It fits perfectly at the top of 6-pack of cans. The advantage is its double-sided form, meaning that another set of cans will fit at the top, creating second layer (as many as household needs). Every PivoChop will have a QR code at top, transferring the consumers directly to the original website and nearest collection spot zalohujmesprazdrojom.sk The handle at the top will allow everyone to carry them there.
Impact: The focus of our solution is to be Sustainable, Convenient for customers and Financially viable at the same time. The material of our product is 100% recycled plastic material – rPET, a material that is firm, durable and for long-term use. With the QR code and App, the goal is to motivate consumers in an innovative way to learn more about the importance of the collection system and to show them the interactive map, which will inform them about the closest spot, where they can turn in the cans.
Feasibility: We managed to get concrete offers from our Recycling partner. First step would be to perfect the prototype with 3D printing, relatively quick process for this type of product. Perfecting the final product and final changes will take appx. 6 weeks, then mass production. The price would be 0.12-0.39 EUR/product. With average price of 0.24 EUR, the short term production for 10% of households (200000), the price would be 48 000 EUR. In long term, for 50% of households, the price would be 240 000EUR.
What you built: We have created a designed mock-up (see cover photo & PPT presentation) for the final product made from 100% recyclable material rPET. See the PPT presentation here: bit.ly/3ggS2Rt We have created a new website - zalohujmesprazdrojom.sk, that will be educatory, informative, and convenient for the consumers.
What you had before: We only had our contacts from Cyrkl – recycling companies (mostly concrete offers from Stäger Inovac Packaging s.r.o.), contacts from Deposit Systems SK.
What comes next: We contacted several plastic companies and through Cyrkl Waste2Resource Marketplace we can help to connect Prazdroj to the best companies, timing, and price estimations on the market. We created the website as well and we are able to further help with the development for the best consumer use. The goal is to create a firm, durable product for long-term use, that will be sustainable, convenient to use for everyone, and financially affordable.
