Problem: Many consumers are not aware of their impact on the electric grid. Each individual's electricity usage affects the overall balance, but people may not realize how their actions contribute to potential imbalances and increased costs. It's important for everyone to be mindful of their electricity consumption to help maintain a stable and cost-effective grid.
Solution: Introducing I❤️grid, a revolutionary device and website combo that puts the power of the electric grid in your hands! With a simple green or red light, the device tells you if electricity demand is too high or too low. But it doesn't stop there! Our interactive website lets you track grid imbalances, learn how the grid works, and order your own I❤️grid device. Take control, save money, and be an energy superhero! Join the grid revolution today!
Impact: In addition to its transformative impact on the grid, the I❤️grid solution brings essential awareness to every household. By providing real-time information on electricity balance, it educates individuals about their energy consumption habits and encourages mindful energy usage. This heightened awareness fosters a culture of energy responsibility, empowering households to make informed choices and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Feasibility: I❤️grid is a device for every household that uses existing technology, regular phone chargers, and common WiFi to make implementation straightforward. Regarding financials, the target cost of under 70 CZK per device allows for affordability and scalability. With 4,813,103 households in the Czech Republic, the total investment in providing one device to each household would be approximately 336 million CZK, only 1,9% of the cost of imbalances incurred last year by ČEPS (17 billion CZK)
What you built: Website: Using Next.js, deployed at https://thedudes-seven.vercel.app has an API that feeds data into the I❤️grid device, as well as information and educational resources to learn about the electric grid. Data is collected from CEPS in real time. https://github.com/levandreev/thedudes Device: ESP32C3 device with WiFi and Bluetooth that accesses real-time grid information and displays that information with a green or red LED Device Github: https://github.com/ajpa-git/thedudesDevice
What you had before: Data API provided by ČEPS. Libraries for the ESP32C3 chip in the I❤️grid device are available online.
What comes next: Sign a 2.5 Million CZK contract with ČEPS to finish the development of the I❤️grid device and manufacture the first 1000 devices. Send the 1000 devices to“pilot test” to a town where the consumption patterns are monitored and compared against the behavior before receiving the devices. All within the 12 months after contract signature. Tentative timeline: Development, months 1 to 6. Manufacture, months 7 to 9. Pilot test in town, months 10 to 12.
