EcoEats App

Team name / Company name: DataShort

Challenge: no. 4: EcoEats
Problem: Tesco health score is not visible to the people and therefore they can not use it as an indicator of what is healthy or not. Another problem we tried to solve was to try to reduce the consumption or rather overconsumption of food in our society. We want people to be more healthy.
Solution: We created a user friendly progressive web application (PWA) which shows the Tesco health score (after scanning the bar code or searching for a product) and visualizes it on a chart with an emoji (nutrition values are also added). That makes the Tesco health score more clear for the customers. We also provide customers with healthier alternatives to the food they selected. After that we made a nutrition programme which helps people plan their diet, thus reducing their food waste.
Impact: Our main goal is to raise awareness about healthy food and to make the customers more healthy so they can live a better life. Another objective we tackled was reducing food waste via our nutrition programme. What we value a lot is that the nutrition programme is personalized to every user, their goals and lifestyle.
Feasibility: Our project is completely functional, the only thing that is holding us back is the missing bar code data from Tesco. With that information we can definitely finish the project to its full potential. For financing we would have to rely on Tesco since we can not share the data with anyone else, but it could definitely be done for any other food chain with reliable data.
What you built: As we said we built a user friendly PWA which helps to show the Tesco health score and reduce food waste. https://datashort.cz/datashort/greenhack2024/
What you had before: Nothing much, just some ideas we wanted to execute.
What comes next: We would love to cooperate with Tesco and integrate this project into their ClubCard app. Then we could also talk to other food chains and maybe do something similar for them.
